DESCRIPTION
A monolithic dark stone container for contemporary memory.
A museum of national memory clad in honed black basalt. The building reads as a single faceted stone dropped into the urban grain of Tirane. Interior galleries are carved out as sequential triangular volumes, each lit by a single overhead slit.
The brief asked for a building that would mediate its site while also asserting a clear geometric identity. Our response was a single irreducible figure repeated at three scales: an outer envelope, an inner volume and a hand-held detail. Every element of Obsidian Museum traces its proportion back to that single triangle.
